Background With the spread of COVID-19 in the world, including Iran, education methods were one of the most important things that underwent changes and transformation, and online education replaced face-to-face education. The current study aims to investigate the attitude of the students of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences (HUMS) in Iran towards online education.
Methods This is a descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study population includes all students in fields of nursing, midwifery, anesthesiology, operating room, and emergency medicine at HUMS in 2020-2021. Of these, 520 participated in the study. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire of attitudes towards online education in four areas of “student-teacher communication”, “learning”, “thinking skills” and “anxiety”. Data analysis was done using descriptive and analytical statistics in SPSS software, version 22.
Results Of 520 students, 65% were female students and 35% were males; 46.9% were nursing students, 12.5% were emergency medicine students, 14.61% were operating room students, 13.84% were anesthesiology students, and 12.11% were midwifery students. The findings showed that the highest mean score was obtained in the domain of “thinking skills” and the lowest mean score was related to the domain of “student-teacher communication”.
Conclusion The attitude of students participating in the research was positive towards the use of virtual education. Therefore, from their point of view, virtual education can be used as a new method in education.
