Introduction: Assertiveness is one of the most fundamental social skills consisting of interpersonal and behavioral skills, which influence the performance of medical students and doctors.The aim of this study was to determine the assertiveness level in medical students  of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences and its  relationship to academic achievement.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all of second-year medical students  of Bandar Abbas medical School (69 students, 49/3% males &50.7 %females were recruited using census methods. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisted of demographic information and Gambrill and Richey assertion inventory .Academic achievement was assessed using grades from all academic classes. Data were analyzed by SPSS 20 software using descriptive analysis, chi square and Pearson correlation coefficient test.
Results: most of (92.8% ) students indicated moderate level of assertiveness and students with poor academic achievements had significantly lower scores in  nine of the eleven " assertiveness "subscales including "Initiating interactions "،"Confronting others "،"Giving negative feedback" ،"Responding to criticism "،"Turning down requests "،"Handling service situations ","Complimenting others", "Admitting personal deficiencies" and "Handling a bothersome situation.
Conclusion: Since only 4 (5.8%) students indicated high levels of assertiveness,  efforts should be made to increase assertiveness in Bandar Abbas medical students especially in lower academic achievers.
