Introduction: The quality of educational services is a key factor that affects the satisfaction and performance of students, teachers and managers in various educational environments. However, measuring and evaluating the quality of educational services is not an easy task because it involves multiple dimensions, perspectives and criteria. In this study, we examine the main concepts and approaches to evaluating the quality of educational services, including the SERVQUAL model, gap analysis, expectation-perception analysis. We also discuss the advantages and limitations of each approach as well as the challenges and opportunities for future research in this field. Our goal is to provide useful results for practitioners, managers and policymakers who are interested in improving the quality of educational services and enhancing the learning outcomes of their stakeholders.
Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 180 medical students of Ramsar Autonomous Campus in different stages of basic sciences, physiopathology, internship and internship in 2023. The data collection tools in this study include; Questionnaire of demographic information and standard questionnaire of educational service quality SERVQUAL. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and inferential statistical tests at a significance level of P<0.05.
Results: Out of the total of 180 participating students in the study, 85 (22.47%) were female and 95 (78.52%) were male and their average age was 24.03 years. Among the participating students, 23.33% were in the basic sciences section, 13.33% in physiopathology section, 20% in externship section and 43.33% in internship section. The quality gap in all five dimensions of educational services quality was negative. Assurance and responsiveness dimensions had the highest quality gap scores respectively. Physical dimension had the lowest quality gap score among other dimensions.
Discussion: The result of this study indicates that students’ expectations have not been met in all five dimensions of educational services quality. Therefore, to improve the level of educational services, all dimensions, especially assurance and responsiveness, should be considered.
