Development Strategies in Medical Education

Abstract

Introduction: Using ICT in higher education is inevitable. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ICT usage and critical thinking skills among students of Medical Sciences, Shahrkoord University of Medical Sciences in the year 2014-15.

Methods: This was a descriptive correlational study. The population comprised all students at the University of Shahrkoord Medical Sciences. The sample was selected by convenience sampling 130. In this study, two instruments were used; An ICT usage questionnaire validated by the experts. The reliability was confirmed through Cronbach's alpha. Critical thinking Ricketts Questionnaire was also applied. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, inferential and Pearson correlation tests were applied using spss software, version 18.

Results: The results showed a positive correlation between the use of ICT and critical thinking (476/0 = r), which was significant (P Value=0/001).

Conclusion: According to the findings, the officials and executives of Medical Education are recommended to provide infrastructure for the use of ICT academically in an attempt to develop critical thinking skills in students.
