Abstract: (428 Views)
Background Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or stroke is one of the most important and common neurological diseases. It is is the third cause of death in older adults after heart diseases and cancers. This study aims to evaluate the effect of education by using pamphlets and posters in increasing the knowledge and practice of Iranian non-medical students regarding the CVAs.
Methods In this quasi-experimental study with a pretest/posttest design, 120 students were selected by stratified random sampling method from three non-medical faculties in Iran. Participants were divided into three groups of control (n=40), pamphlets (n=40) and posters (n=40). Their knowledge and practice were assessed using a valid and reliable questionnaire before and after three weeks after the intervention. Data analysis was done in SPSS software, version 21 using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.
Results Both pamphlet and poster groups showed a significant improvement in knowledge and performance scores after educational intervention compared to the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between these two intervention groups.
Conclusion Educational pamphlets and posters can increase the knowledge and practice of non-medical students regarding the CVAs. There is no difference between their effectiveness. Educational pamphlets and posters can be used in non-medical faculties in Iran for increasing the CVA knowledge and practice of students.
