Background Having enough skills in performing clinical procedures is one of the necessities of the medical profession. The present study aims to investigate the effect of airway management workshop on the skills of interns in emergency medicine from Zahedan, southern Iran.
Methods In this intervention study, 80 interns in emergency medicine from Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in 2022 participated. The data collection tools included a demographic form and an airway management checklist based on the Emergency Procedures Quick Reference Guide. Data analysis was done in SPSS v. 21 software using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results Participants were 37 female (46.2%) and 43 male (53.8%) interns. There was a significant difference between the skill scores of interns before and after participating in the airway management workshop (P<0.001). There was no significant difference between the skill scores before and after education based on gender (P=0.351). The skill score difference between pretest and posttest phases was not significant based on the duration of the internship period (P=0.321) or the type of university (P=0.213).The results of Spearman’s correlation showed a significant relationship between the skill score difference of interns and their grade point average (P=0.002).
Conclusion The airway management workshop improved the skill of interns in Zahedan. To increase the skills of interns in airway management, practical education is needed.
