مقدمه: افت تحصیلی، از معضلات اساسی هر سیستم آموزشی است که نه تنها دارای پیامدهای شخصی، بلکه به عنوان یک معضل تأثیرگذار اجتماعی، منجر به به اتلاف هزینه‌های آموزشی و اختلال در نظام آموزش عالی هر کشوری خواهد گردید. بنابراین، پژوهش حاضر، با هدف تعیین عوامل مؤثر بر افت تحصیلی دانشجویان استعداد درخشان دانشگاه علوم پزشکی سمنان انجام شد.
روش‌ها: این مطالعه‌ی توصیفی تحلیلی، به روش مقطعی، در سال 92-1391 انجام گرفت. جامعه‌ی پژوهش، تمام دانشجویان استعداد درخشان دچار افت تحصیلی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی سمنان که 53 نفر بودند، جهت گردآوری داده‌ها، از پرسشنامه‌ی محققساخته عوامل افت تحصیلی، شامل چهار حیطه‌ی عوامل مربوط به دانشجو، دانشگاه و محیط آموزشی، خانواده و جامعه و مدرس استفاده شد. روایی پرسشنامه، به روش اعتبار محتوایی و پایایی آن، با آلفای کرونباخ برابر 83/0 اثبات شد. تحلیل داده‌ها با نرم‌افزارSPSS  انجام شد.
یافته‌ها: مهمترین عوامل مؤثر بر افت تحصیلی، شامل نبود انگیزه‌ی کافی، لذت نبردن از مطالعه، مشکلات روحی ناشی از ناسازگاری با محیط، پایین بودن کیفیت تدریس اساتید، استاندارد نبودن سؤالات امتحانی، نبود سیستم تشویق، عدم توجه کافی به دانشجویان استعداد درخشان از سوی مسئولین و عدم برنامه‌ریزی مناسب آموزشی بود. در تحلیل واریانس، افت تحصیلی با اشتغال (036/0P-Value=)، وضعیت سکونت (018/0P-Value=)، وضعیت اقتصادی (026/0P-Value=)، ابتلا به بیماری (009/0P-Value=)، تحصیلات والدین (043/0P-Value=)، نوع برنامه‌ریزی (010/0P-Value=)، وضعیت حضور در کلاس (012/0P-Value=) و علاقه به رشته‌ی فعلی (21/0P-Value=)، همبستگی معنی‌دار داشت.
نتیجهگیری: عوامل مختلفی بر افت تحصیلی دانشجویان استعداد درخشان مؤثر است؛ کشف این عوامل و ارائه‌ی راه‌کارهایی به مدیران آموزشی، امری ضروری و پیشنهادی برای پژوهشگران است.
