AB - Introduction: Considering the barriers to research is in order to attain sustainable development one of the requirements of the health system of the country. The aim of this study was to determine the barriers to conducting research from the viewpoint of male students of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Yazd. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the study included 120 boy students of Yazd University of Medical Sciences who were studied by stratified sampling. Data collection tools comprised 3 parts: demographic and field information (21 items), personal barriers (15 items), and organizational barriers (19 items). After verifying the validity and reliability of the instruments, the questionnaire was completed by the students. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical index using SPSS 20 software at 5% significance level were used to analyze. Results: Mean age of students was 23.75 ± 1.67. Mean of personal barriers was 49.56 ± 7.58 and Mean of organizational obstacles was 61.21 ± 9.21. In personal barriers was the lack of orientation with the principles and methods of statistics, the inability to interpret data and the inability to analyze data the most frequent. The length of the stages of the approval of research projects, the lack of communication with those active in the research, and the lack of sufficient incentive for researchers through the relevant specialist, are the most frequent in organizational barriers. Conclusion: Results of this study showed that done would facilitate the approval of research projects and empowerment of students on the principles of using statistical methods and effective research communication by the professors and university officials in order to reduce barriers to research.
