Introduction: Evidence suggests that despite the increasing inclination of nursing students to engage in work during studying, many of the issues associated with it remain unknown. The purpose of this study is to review of work during studying in nursing students.
Methods: This study was conducted in 2017 with reviewing available literature and articles related to work during studying in nursing students and searching in databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, Proquest, Elsevier, Google Scholar, SID and IDML. English and Persian articles published in 1999 to 2017 were selected.
Results: The work experience also influences the socialization of nursing students to enter the profession and it has benefits such as a relative decline in financial problems, increasing nursing skills, clinical experiences, self-esteem and independence, and reducing stress. Work during studying can have negative effects such as loss of concentration, fatigue, burnout, decreasing academic achievement and stress. Factors such as financial incentives, having welfare and proper social life, individual satisfaction, enhance experience and functional skills and having new friends can attract students to work.
Conclusion: Work during studying and its positive and negative consequences are important issues in nursing education and can easily affect academic performance of students and even their physical and mental status. Positive effects are acceptable, but negative effects should be evaluated and eliminated as far as possible.
