مقدمه و هدف: امروزه نگرانی عمده­ی نظام آموزشی سلامت، غفلت از کیفیت مطالب و کارایی دانش­آموختگان می­باشد. تطبیق، مقایسه و تحلیل ابعاد مختلف برنامه­ها با سایر کشورها، در رفع این دغدغه بسیار مؤثر است. با توجه به کمبود مطالعات مربوط، این پژوهش با هدف بررسی تطبیقی برنامه دکتری پرستاری ایران و تورنتو انجام شد.
روش‌ها: مطالعه توصیفی حاضر با رویکرد تطبیقی، سال 1396 و الگوی چهار مرحله­ای بردی(Beredy) صورت گرفت. اطلاعات مربوطه از دو دانشگاه جمع­آوری و مطابق مراحل تفسیر و همجواری طبقه­بندی شدند. سپس شباهت­ها و تفاوت­­ها آنالیز گردیدند.
یافته‌ها: هر دو برنامه آموزشی به صورت تمام وقت، حضوری و با تأکید بر اصل دانشجو محوری است. تفاوت­هایی از نظر ساختاری بین برنامه­ها وجود دارد؛ اما طول دوره آموزشی - پژوهشی و محتوای برخی دروس همانند آشنایی با زمینه تحقیقاتی، رساله پژوهشی و نقد مطالعات در تورنتو با روش­شناسی تحقیقات کمی - کیفی و نقد مقالات در ایران و درس سمینار دانشجویان با چالش­های پرستاری دارای شباهت­هایی است. دانشکده تورنتو بر مقاله منتج از پایان­نامه تأکید نکرده ولی در ایران استخراج مقاله از رساله ضروری است.
نتیجه‌گیری: نقطه عطف برنامه تورنتو به­روزرسانی مدون آن است. در ایران با توجه به نیازهای در حال گسترش این رشته و انتظارات فارغ التحصیلان، تغییرات کلی ضروری است؛ لذا توصیه می­گردد علاوه بر توجه به پیشنهادات اصلاحی در متون مختلف، این دوره در ایران از نظر کلی و محتوایی مورد بازنگری قرار گیرد.
